Activate Your Energy and Boost Your Mood

ACTIVATE YOUR ENERGY LEVELS AND BOOST YOUR MOOD

With so much focus being placed on how we should be and feel, and what we should do with our time - leading a healthy lifestyle can seem overwhelming. Obviously, we’d all love to wake up every morning after a solid 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep and start our days off feeling rejuvenated and fresh.

With population stress levels at an all time high and the mental health of the general population at an all time low, it has never been more important to equip ourselves with natural ways to boost our mood and activate our energy levels.

It can be challenging to remain motivated and energised when it's cold outside and often this time of year can exacerbate depression as shorter days and longer nights may tend to heighten negative feelings.

But did you know that there are tried and tested ways to naturally boost your mood and activate your energy levels?

Whilst they might sound simple, these methods do work and we challenge you to give them a try this winter season. Let us know how they worked for you!

NOURISH YOUR BODY

Food is fuel. By packing your diet full of foods that are scientifically proven to activate your energy levels, you are already giving your body the best possible chance to stay in a better mood.

Consider adding slow-burning energy sources to your diet. Oatmeal, bananas and yoghurt make a tasty breakfast and will keep you feeling full for a longer period of time.

Your meal choices don’t need to be boring. Take the time to enjoy preparing your food. Get creative with sweet potatoes, legumes and different fruits. Take note of which foods your body responds well to and then have more of that!

You can even eat chocolate (in moderation). Chocolate, specifically cacao (the unprocessed seeds from which chocolate is made), has been shown to alleviate symptoms of depression.

It has a positive effect on mood due to its flavanols, which convert chemicals into the natural mood stabilizer serotonin. It also contains theobromine, which reduces anxiety and provides energy.

NOURISH YOUR MIND

Do not underestimate the importance of small things that can boost your mood. Singing your favourite song in the car releases stress and makes you smile!

Music is medicine for the soul. Everything in our bodies is connected and by nourishing your soul, you can inadvertently nourish your body. Research suggests that just a few moments outside in the fresh air and sun can boost your memory, release endorphins and activate your energy.

Surround yourself with people that add to your physical and emotional energy, rather than drain it. Hang out with friends that keep you active. Exercise is scientifically proven to boost your mood as oxygen rich blood surges to your heart, muscles and brain every time you work out.

Move whenever you get the chance. Walk in circles in your office, break out the dance moves in the boardroom or end your day with a brisk walk. You’ll feel better, sleep better and banish the fatigue, guaranteed!

Leading a holistically healthy life starts from the inside out.

If you take the time to understand what your body and mind needs, you will start to recognise the golden thread between your mood and your energy levels.

Most of these helpful hacks can be achieved in ten minutes or less. Keep a journal of what circumstances cause you to crash and take the necessary steps to stop them happening.

And as with any change in life, it takes time. Be patient with yourself. And drink your water!
